A Bridal Series || Here comes the bride.

Hi, my name is Mariah and I’m going to be a BRIDE. A BRIDE. (Insert all heart eye emojis here) I still cannot believe it!

Ashley Meagan Photography

The wedding planning process has been extremely enjoyable (sometimes stressful) as we are making and designing most everything ourselves. I designed and made our invitations. Matthew built the arbor we are getting married under and I will be decorating it, we are making our own cake topper and other fun details! It’s a lot of work but I’m looking forward to seeing our vision come to life!

Of course though, the most asked question has been “Have you found your dress?!”  The process was actually a lot less painless than I was expecting. I think this was because I went in accepting that I may not find exactly what I wanted but was willing to try on new things. I didn’t want to be a bridezilla. Even though I wanted to try new things and be open, there were three details I knew I really wanted in my dress. Simple, lace and flowy! I could not see myself in a big extravagant ballgown. Although that style is seriously SO beautiful and I would feel like such a princess, I knew it wasn’t meant for me.

weddingdressesguide.com is a gold mine of information for wedding dress inspiration! They have posts that range from simple dresses to country styled dresses. My original style inspiration was bohemian mostly because I’ve been dreaming about wearing a flower crown for what seems like forever and knew a bohemian styled dress would be very appropriate for this.

The day I found the dress I was with my Momma, Grandma and soon-to-be Mother-In-Law. We did the process of elimination based on the following questions. Is this within my budget? Is there lace? Does this look like something Mariah would actually wear? The first dress I tried on was THE dress! Wild right? It was such a success. Afterwards we all went to Chili’s which always counts as a successful day in the end.

Although I don’t want to expose exactly what my dress looks like I will share some details that I’m obsessed with and what actually surprised me about the dress. First of all, it does have some amazing lace details! This is the most important part to me and I want to squeal of happiness whenever I think about it. It’s much longer than I expected it to be and there is also some beaded detail. I have never been fond of beading in dresses so this was the biggest surprise to me.  This is why brides need to be open when trying on wedding dresses because you never really know until it’s off the hanger and on your body.

I’ve also been asked what my hair and makeup will be like. My makeup is going to be simple with plenty of rosy pinks! I will be on the hunt for the perfect pretty pink blush and lipstick. I also know I’m going to be an emotional mess of happiness so if you know of a solid setting spray, let a girl know! I don’t want to spill the beans about my hair but remember when I said I’ve been wanting to wear a flower crown forever? *wink*

Shoes?! What about THE SHOES?! Toms, ladies. I’m wearing Toms.

Matthew and I have decided to keep it traditional and have our first look be as I’m walking down the aisle! Although I love first look images and think they are so sweet, it’s just not for us. I’m going to have serious butterflies in my stomach!

I wore crazy lipstick colors & here’s what I learned.

My secret is out… I’ve always been fascinated and totally jealous of women who can pull off badass lip shades. I’ve always been pretty safe when it comes to lipstick, whenever I put red lipstick on I want to take it off as soon as possible. I definitely stick to light pinks and nudes when it comes to my everyday lip color.

While I was at Walgreens, I saw NYX lipsticks on sale and kept looking at all of the crazy colors and finally thought “Whatever, I’m going to do it!”

I really excepted this to be social experiment more than anything. I thought there would be many double glances, odd looks, any just overall awkward and uncomfortable experiences. I was actually surprised to find that I didn’t get as many looks about my lipstick choices. I think it’s a little more common than I thought or people just kept all comments to themselves. Although the social aspect of it didn’t turn out as I had thought, I still learned quite a bit from this lip color adventure.

You have to think a little more about your outfit choices

Since I’m used to having natural tones of makeup and lip color, I can wear anything with my makeup. However, adding these pops of color had me exploring my outfit choices more than usual. I definitely felt I needed to be “extra” with just about everything as well.

It tests your confidence

The first day I wore the lipstick, I got really nervous to walk inside the grocery store! It makes you wonder what people think not only about your lipstick but what they think about you. Lip color can set a variety of first impressions for a someone. You can be seen as bold, intimidating, unprofessional, sexy, playful, etc. I think many women are interested in wearing all of these new and interesting shades but it is also extremely intimidating! However, I have found that you just have to stand tall and just own it!

Navy Blue || NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Moscow

This was the first lip color I decided to wear and by far the most dramatic out of the three. It was defiantly a shock! This color I had the most double glances with but also quite a few compliments. I was totally nervous and unsure with this color but it grew on me by the end of the day! I think it definitely brought out some punk to my everyday look without going full black. My best friend also told me that she didn’t like blue at all in the beginning but it grew on her as “sexy and mysterious!” Although I don’t think I would wear this out during the day again, I would love to wear it again in the future. I would apply it for an evening out to a club or cool art event in the city. I think if you’re looking to explore a little edge in your look, go for the deep blue!

LipColor-4Bright Orange ||NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Orange County

Bright Orange might be the most “acceptable” out of these lip shades but definitely wasn’t my favorite. That being said, I enjoy shades of orange much more than shades of red. This is a color I would need to be in the mood for. This color made me feel very exotic and the need to be totally colorful! I think this bright orange would be fun to wear for a beach day or to any summer event.

Deep Lavender || NYX Matte Lipstick in Zen Orchid

Okay, Seriously. I want all shades of purple lipstick! I think this color would look great for just about any event and time of day. You can add it as a fun pop of color during the day or dress it up for the evening. Purple is a very creative color so I thought the perfect outfit for the day was a casual t-shirt which says “Inspire and Be Inspired” with a floppy hat. Let’s just say, I’ve become a huge fan of purple.

What is your favorite crazy lipcolor?

Stay Sunny!

Increasing your motivation while working from home.

Dreaming big is one thing, being motivated and working toward those goals is another. Working from home is pretty fantastic, it comes with all of the perks of working on your own time, taking your lunch when you please (actually eating whenever you want) and in the comfort of your own home. You are your own boss! Groovy.

However, it can also be very difficult to stay motivated when you work from home. When you don’t have a nine-to-five job to run to, it is easy to get into the habit of waking up later, procrastinating more, and becoming overall a little more sluggish. I have a good friend who recently started her own business and she was discussing how when she started her own business from home she became depressed, even though this was something she’s always wanted!

Currently,  I am a full-time graduate student online, a freelance photographer and blogger and recently started selling Perfectly Posh. I have had to defeat the low motivation and productivity while doing all of my work from home!

Here are some things you can do to increase your motivation and productivity. (These could definitely apply to anyone, not just those who work from home)

  • Create a vision board

This week one of my good friends came over and we made vision boards. Place your vision board so you can see it in the morning when you wake up and in the evening when you go to sleep. Your vision board should be something you look at and take in before scrolling through Facebook. Think about YOUR goals and life at the beginning of the day instead of other’s lives.

  • Wake up and meditate

When you wake up and meditate, you are setting positive and productive intentions for the rest of the day. There are many podcasts and even videos on Youtube that have guided meditation. 10-20 minutes is all you need each day to become present in the moment and set some good intentions throughout the day.

  • Organize your day

Staying organized is very important. Make sure you invest in a planner that works for you or even better purchase a nice bullet journal and create your own layouts. Bullet journals are also really great because you are not only staying organized but it’s also a great way to get creative with your daily thoughts. My days are separated by events that day, to-do lists and also goals. Each weekly spread I also have a quote to reflect on and my weekly goals. Some bullet journal spreads are some serious eye candy. Can we also talk about my obsession with planner stickers?

  • Get ready for the day

When you see advertisements for online schools they often say “Go to school in your pajamas!” I highly advise you not to do this. Sometimes you’ll just want to wake up late and stay in your pajamas because “you can.” When you stay in your comfortable clothes all day you have little motivation to do anything professional because you will not feel professional. I’m not telling you that you should get dressed up in a suit everyday but you should at least put on some pants and a decent shirt. “Dress for the job you want” they say.

  • Set Do Not Disturb on your phone

Nothing grabs me more into social media than to see a notification. “Ooo attractive male liked my selfie? Let me stalk his Instagram feed for a minute” *20 minutes later on Instagram….* No, stop! I assure you, Felipe can wait. When you set the Do Not Disturb on your phone it will eliminate notifications popping up from all apps. If you will still be distracted by your phone after setting it to Do Not Disturb, place it in another room.

  • Move your body and get fresh air

Your body will always feel better when you get your blood pumping! You can get your blood pumping by doing yoga, going on walks, going to the gym or even dancing in your bedroom. Try to keep your body moving throughout the day as well. Often times I will go to the gym midday because I know my mind needs some movement, away from the screen. The fresh air will also benefit you. Every once in a while go out and get some fresh air. Take a walk around the block or eat your lunch outside. The sunshine will also be good for you soul.

  • Take your work somewhere else

When I have little motivation I will pick up my things and go to another location outside of my home. My bed and Netflix often call my name. Libraries and coffee shops are great options to take your work. Some libraries have some great little spots where you can have complete privacy from anyone else. Personally, I find my best working vibes in coffee shops. Just me, my work and a green tea latte.

What do you do to stay motivated?

Seattle, Washington

I had a really great experience this past weekend. I was flown to Seattle, Washington where I took maternity and engagement photos for a friend who I’ve known since we were knee high to a grasshopper. The photos we took are gorgeous! They are so loving toward to each other and so excited about their future together and with the baby. I loved to capture their happiness! Here are a couple of black and white details.

I was only there for a short time but I was able to experience some scenery of Seattle, Pikes Place and some of Fisherman’s Warf. Pikes Place was really a treat! I love anywhere that looks a little grungy, has an array of foods, and cute shops to look inside!

Here are some bits of my trip!

It was sunny while I was in Seattle. SUNNY IN SEATTLE.

  • The Needle is much smaller than I imagined it to be.
  • It was Pride in Seattle so there were rainbows everywhere. You can’t be sad being surrounded by love and rainbows!
  • I got to enjoy watching a famous Pikes Fish Market fish toss! I watched a documentary about this in school and was so happy I got to see it myself.
  • For lunch at Pikes Place I ate a small bag chicken gizzards, hearts and liver. SO GOOD. Except I didn’t fancy the liver as much. Give me all the hearts though.
  • Let’s talk about the organic blackberry apple cider, too. Oh lord!
  • I definitely fancied the fresh flower markets all along the market!
  • We passed the first Starbucks but the line was just far too big to go inside, I did enjoy that they kept the old logo and everything though!
  • Instead of enjoying Starbucks I went for a local coffee shop next to the Gum Wall called Ghost Alley Espresso which was an adorable hole in the wall. I got vanilla cinnamon something somewhat or another latte. That’s not really what it’s called, I just forgot, oops. BUT it was sooo good. Super creamy and wonderful!
  • I purchased $14 worth of Salt Water Taffy on Fisherman’s Warf & a souvenir shirt that has yellow on it to remember my time in Seattle, while it was sunny.

Well, this about wraps up my short time in Seattle and I cannot wait to go back and explore more, except next time I’ll have to purchase cute rain boots and a stylish umbrella.  I might even make a big trip from Seattle to Canada! Train ride anyone?

Festive Fashion

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year! There’ll be parties for hosting, marshmallows for roasting, and caroling out in the snow!” Well, in Mexico there will be no caroling out in the snow but we know how to fiesta! Last night was the annual Christmas party of some of our dear friends so obviously I had to dress up for this Navidad Fiesta. It was so fun to be around my San Felipe family with great food, bocce ball, and the greatest gift exchange game I’ve ever experienced…I walked away with Bath and Body Work’s goods in the scent Be Joyful!

If you’re like me you probably enjoy getting all dressed up for holiday events! The glitter, the ugly sweaters, and all things wonderful to wear during the holidays. Sometimes you don’t want to go out and buy an expensive outfit though so that’s why I stick to something cute and creative to make myself! I want to share with you my festive outfit on a budget that you can do for your upcoming holiday parties too! Get creative with a few pesos in your pocket.

I made my tutu! If you don’t know how to make tutus you would be amazing to learn how easy it is to do and it’s perfect for fun festivities such as this! All you have to do is take strips of tulle and slip knot them onto thick ribbon to tie around your waist! Easy as uno, duos, tres! Tulle can be very inexpensive depending on where you go…in Mexico our fabric stores are incredibly cheap! This tutu probably took one yard of white, half a yard of green, and just a few stripes of the red and silver glitter.

There’s actually a funny story to the giant bow around my neck. I found it on the side of the road! We were driving and I yelled “Pull over! I need that!” I think it’s a giant bow that was on someone’s car that fell off. You can purchase something like this at the dollar store. Throw some ribbon into it and pair it with a simple shirt for a cute festive pop!

My hat is also a snapback…and since I’m embarrassing to be around I of course have to wear it backwards to look supa’ fly.

Kahlua Mexican Hot Chocolate

It’s cold in Mexico!

Although we won’t be having a snow day anytime soon it’s cold enough that most of us are wearing clothing that is not shorts and a tank top. Since I get cold very easily I’ve been wearing my good share of leggings, sweaters, and fuzzy socks….it’s in the 60’s, I’m well aware that I’m quite the wimp.

A warm treat here in Mexico is Mexican hot chocolate! What’s the different between hot chocolate and Mexican hot chocolate? Mexican hot chocolate has spices in it such as cinnamon and chili powder for that sweet and spicy goodness! It’s so easy you can make it yourself! Or better yet some places in the US sell the chocolate blocks…I used the brand Ibarra.

Anybody who really knows me on a personal level knows I don’t drink alcohol but I honesty love Kahlua…surprise! I thought I would try some in my Mexican hot chocolate and happy I did!

I use milk for my hot chocolate…always! If you are making a serving for yourself grab the mug you are wanting to use and fill it with milk about 3/4 and then add a shot of Kahlua. Pour it into a saucepan and keep stirring until it gets steamy and drop in your block of chocolate! Keep stirring until the chocolate is melted and immediately pour it into your mug.

Top it off with whipped cream and cajeta! Cajeta is caramel made with goats milk, vanilla, and cinnamon and so delicious!

This rich delicious drink will totally warm you up this holiday season!

Shopping in Mexico

“Good deal for you today only!” is a common phrase you will hear while shopping in Mexico. I think shopping in Mexico is so much fun, and I’m also getting a lot better at bartering to get a better deal too. Shopping is actually really good right now too because the peso is so low at the moment which is bad for the Mexicans but good for the Americans.

I have a great love for the colorful Mexican patterns, it’s become my favorite decorating style actually. There are a few things that have been on my list to get while I was in Mexico which included a nice ring, a blanket, and a little bowl to hold my bracelets and of course a coffee mug. It’s really difficult to not want more though! I think my next shopping list is a vase and a dress.

The place we shop at is called The Malecon. The Malecon is by the sea with lots of little shops and restaurants, can you get better then that?

Since they all sell the same type of merchandise and products it’s always a scavenger hunt to find that really unique one. I like to look at all of the shops first, get prices, and then go back to the best one. Although sometimes you will get a killer price that you just can’t pass up at that moment….but you could also see one you like much better at the next place…the struggle!

Making relationships with vendors is also a very good idea when out shopping. You become a loyal customer to them and they will give you the best deals. I got my ring from someone my parent’s always go to, he’s usually down on the Malecon or at our Saturday swap meets. I love this ring so much, I’m in love with circle shaped rings and the orange gemstone really goes with my style and love of wearing warm colors.

I loved this bowl and coffee mug, my favorite part about these that I haven’t seen before is they have some pink in them! You all know me, even a little touch of pink will make my heart sing.

I was on a hunt for a blanket to hang on my wall behind my bed as some décor, these normally run about 35-50 dollars but I got mine for about $25. There was a blanket that was all pink and I was SO tempted to get that but I knew I should have something with some more color other then all pink. (Okay, you get it, I love pink) I haven’t hung this above my bed yet because I kind of like it laying on my bed better, it’s also quite cozy! I guess this means I need to go shopping for more ideas of what to put on my wall…darn 🙂

What cool things have you scored in Mexico or any other foreign country?!
