A Bridal Series || Here comes the bride.

Hi, my name is Mariah and I’m going to be a BRIDE. A BRIDE. (Insert all heart eye emojis here) I still cannot believe it!

Ashley Meagan Photography

The wedding planning process has been extremely enjoyable (sometimes stressful) as we are making and designing most everything ourselves. I designed and made our invitations. Matthew built the arbor we are getting married under and I will be decorating it, we are making our own cake topper and other fun details! It’s a lot of work but I’m looking forward to seeing our vision come to life!

Of course though, the most asked question has been “Have you found your dress?!”  The process was actually a lot less painless than I was expecting. I think this was because I went in accepting that I may not find exactly what I wanted but was willing to try on new things. I didn’t want to be a bridezilla. Even though I wanted to try new things and be open, there were three details I knew I really wanted in my dress. Simple, lace and flowy! I could not see myself in a big extravagant ballgown. Although that style is seriously SO beautiful and I would feel like such a princess, I knew it wasn’t meant for me.

weddingdressesguide.com is a gold mine of information for wedding dress inspiration! They have posts that range from simple dresses to country styled dresses. My original style inspiration was bohemian mostly because I’ve been dreaming about wearing a flower crown for what seems like forever and knew a bohemian styled dress would be very appropriate for this.

The day I found the dress I was with my Momma, Grandma and soon-to-be Mother-In-Law. We did the process of elimination based on the following questions. Is this within my budget? Is there lace? Does this look like something Mariah would actually wear? The first dress I tried on was THE dress! Wild right? It was such a success. Afterwards we all went to Chili’s which always counts as a successful day in the end.

Although I don’t want to expose exactly what my dress looks like I will share some details that I’m obsessed with and what actually surprised me about the dress. First of all, it does have some amazing lace details! This is the most important part to me and I want to squeal of happiness whenever I think about it. It’s much longer than I expected it to be and there is also some beaded detail. I have never been fond of beading in dresses so this was the biggest surprise to me.  This is why brides need to be open when trying on wedding dresses because you never really know until it’s off the hanger and on your body.

I’ve also been asked what my hair and makeup will be like. My makeup is going to be simple with plenty of rosy pinks! I will be on the hunt for the perfect pretty pink blush and lipstick. I also know I’m going to be an emotional mess of happiness so if you know of a solid setting spray, let a girl know! I don’t want to spill the beans about my hair but remember when I said I’ve been wanting to wear a flower crown forever? *wink*

Shoes?! What about THE SHOES?! Toms, ladies. I’m wearing Toms.

Matthew and I have decided to keep it traditional and have our first look be as I’m walking down the aisle! Although I love first look images and think they are so sweet, it’s just not for us. I’m going to have serious butterflies in my stomach!

Life is beautiful and now I’m engaged to the love of my life.

Within the past year my mind was wrapped up in being a single and independent woman running wild and free and building a life on my own. I had lost trust and hope that there would be someone for me to build a life with. January 20, 2018 I met the love of my life and it turned my life around in the most positive and beautiful way I could ever imagine.

The last time I wrote on the blog, I felt incomplete and lost in life. I was feeling sorry for myself one evening and downloaded Tinder as a good source of entertainment.

Swipe left. Swipe left. Everyone sucks. Swipe left.

…..OH…..Hi….hello….you’re…wow wow wow….Swipe right.

I cannot tell you how giddy I was the moment we matched. I knew right away I had to steal his heart and by that I told him I make some bomb chocolate chip cookies.

We went on our first date which started with desserts and ended with poetry and two months later we are engaged to be married this fall!

Everything in between our first date and the night he proposed is what I had dreamt of my entire life. Strong communication, kindness, never ending laughter and the pure comfort of being my true self. I’ll never forget the time Matthew told me “I don’t just have a girlfriend. I have a partner” The connection we have is what I pray everyone else can experience in their life. I was always told “When you know, you know” and nothing is more true than the love that Matthew and I share.

Matthew makes my heart completely melt and because of him I want to be a better person everyday.

We are incredibly blessed. Blessed to have found each other and for all of the love and support of our big decision to spend and build a life together.

Xoxo,

Future Mrs. Green.

The New Year is exhausting.

I’m usually an optimist on any given holiday. I enjoy anything that includes extra glitter, food and celebrations. However, The New Year is exhausting in many different ways.

The exhaustion of a New Year doesn’t just come from staying up past midnight which is always a struggle for me. It’s also mentally exhausting. During New Years we are always focused on how we can be a super human this year and how much we sucked last year. Focusing more on our past and future rather than being in the present moment, one of the most important things I learned from 2017.

A new beginning is so forced by society during a new year. How are you going to change your lifestyle? How are you going to change your body? How are you going to change your relationships? I’ve had my fair share of new beginnings and I’m telling you this, it’s much more rewarding to let these changes come naturally rather than forced. We grow at our own time and not by January 1st, two thousand whatever.

I used to be obsessed with New Year’s Resolutions and sharing my goals for the upcoming year with the world. I even created a vision board art piece last year but lost it a month after posting about it. Do we actually set these resolutions to make ourselves a better person or to just prove to the world that we too have goals?

I hope you wake up everyday thankful for the lessons you learned from the previous day and how you can better yourself and goals daily.

With all of this being said, I did have a fantastic New Years which ended with a New Year’s kiss and pancakes for breakfast.

Stay Sunny!

stop feeling guilty for doing something for you.

I wasn’t feeling it yesterday. I wasn’t feeling it the day before either. Sometimes I’m just not feeling things and I always feel like shit about it. I should be an awesome person today and I’m not, what’s wrong with me?

Last night I had some alone time and decided to take advantage of it. Although I promised myself this quiet and relaxing time I still felt guilty. I felt lazy because I wasn’t doing something productive. I could have been writing a new blog, working on my paper due next Sunday, starting a new project… absolutely anything would be better than what I was doing.

When I started to really feel guilty I took out my laptop and started to write a post for my blog that didn’t even matter to me just for the sake of getting something up on the blog. How silly is that? I then shut my laptop and made a goal. I got really enthusiastic about this goal.  “I’m going to binge-watch the entire season of my show tonight and nothing is going to stop me!” I whipped up some Mexican hot chocolate, grabbed a cookie, snuggled in my bed and pressed play. I was finished with my series by 10pm and went to sleep.

This morning I woke up feeling enthusiastic to write to you and tell you that I think you should make it a goal within the next week to binge-watch your favorite show on Netflix with hot chocolate so you can wake up the next day and be a badass.

Stay Merry and Bright!

I wore crazy lipstick colors & here’s what I learned.

My secret is out… I’ve always been fascinated and totally jealous of women who can pull off badass lip shades. I’ve always been pretty safe when it comes to lipstick, whenever I put red lipstick on I want to take it off as soon as possible. I definitely stick to light pinks and nudes when it comes to my everyday lip color.

While I was at Walgreens, I saw NYX lipsticks on sale and kept looking at all of the crazy colors and finally thought “Whatever, I’m going to do it!”

I really excepted this to be social experiment more than anything. I thought there would be many double glances, odd looks, any just overall awkward and uncomfortable experiences. I was actually surprised to find that I didn’t get as many looks about my lipstick choices. I think it’s a little more common than I thought or people just kept all comments to themselves. Although the social aspect of it didn’t turn out as I had thought, I still learned quite a bit from this lip color adventure.

You have to think a little more about your outfit choices

Since I’m used to having natural tones of makeup and lip color, I can wear anything with my makeup. However, adding these pops of color had me exploring my outfit choices more than usual. I definitely felt I needed to be “extra” with just about everything as well.

It tests your confidence

The first day I wore the lipstick, I got really nervous to walk inside the grocery store! It makes you wonder what people think not only about your lipstick but what they think about you. Lip color can set a variety of first impressions for a someone. You can be seen as bold, intimidating, unprofessional, sexy, playful, etc. I think many women are interested in wearing all of these new and interesting shades but it is also extremely intimidating! However, I have found that you just have to stand tall and just own it!

LipColor-6

Navy Blue || NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Moscow

This was the first lip color I decided to wear and by far the most dramatic out of the three. It was defiantly a shock! This color I had the most double glances with but also quite a few compliments. I was totally nervous and unsure with this color but it grew on me by the end of the day! I think it definitely brought out some punk to my everyday look without going full black. My best friend also told me that she didn’t like blue at all in the beginning but it grew on her as “sexy and mysterious!” Although I don’t think I would wear this out during the day again, I would love to wear it again in the future. I would apply it for an evening out to a club or cool art event in the city. I think if you’re looking to explore a little edge in your look, go for the deep blue!

LipColor-4Bright Orange ||NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Orange County

Bright Orange might be the most “acceptable” out of these lip shades but definitely wasn’t my favorite. That being said, I enjoy shades of orange much more than shades of red. This is a color I would need to be in the mood for. This color made me feel very exotic and the need to be totally colorful! I think this bright orange would be fun to wear for a beach day or to any summer event.

LipColor-5

Deep Lavender || NYX Matte Lipstick in Zen Orchid

Okay, Seriously. I want all shades of purple lipstick! I think this color would look great for just about any event and time of day. You can add it as a fun pop of color during the day or dress it up for the evening. Purple is a very creative color so I thought the perfect outfit for the day was a casual t-shirt which says “Inspire and Be Inspired” with a floppy hat. Let’s just say, I’ve become a huge fan of purple.

What is your favorite crazy lipcolor?

Increasing your motivation while working from home.

Dreaming big is one thing, being motivated and working toward those goals is another. Working from home is pretty fantastic, it comes with all of the perks of working on your own time, taking your lunch when you please (actually eating whenever you want) and in the comfort of your own home. You are your own boss! Groovy.

However, it can also be very difficult to stay motivated when you work from home. When you don’t have a nine-to-five job to run to, it is easy to get into the habit of waking up later, procrastinating more, and becoming overall a little more sluggish. I have a good friend who recently started her own business and she was discussing how when she started her own business from home she became depressed, even though this was something she’s always wanted!

Currently,  I am a full-time graduate student online, a freelance photographer and blogger and recently started selling Perfectly Posh. I have had to defeat the low motivation and productivity while doing all of my work from home!

Productivity.jpg

Here are some things you can do to increase your motivation and productivity. (These could definitely apply to anyone, not just those who work from home)

  • Create a vision board

This week one of my good friends came over and we made vision boards. Place your vision board so you can see it in the morning when you wake up and in the evening when you go to sleep. Your vision board should be something you look at and take in before scrolling through Facebook. Think about YOUR goals and life at the beginning of the day instead of other’s lives.

Productivity-2.jpg

  • Wake up and meditate

When you wake up and meditate, you are setting positive and productive intentions for the rest of the day. There are many podcasts and even videos on Youtube that have guided meditation. 10-20 minutes is all you need each day to become present in the moment and set some good intentions throughout the day.

Productivity-7.jpg

  • Organize your day

Staying organized is very important. Make sure you invest in a planner that works for you or even better purchase a nice bullet journal and create your own layouts. Bullet journals are also really great because you are not only staying organized but it’s also a great way to get creative with your daily thoughts. My days are separated by events that day, to-do lists and also goals. Each weekly spread I also have a quote to reflect on and my weekly goals. Some bullet journal spreads are some serious eye candy. Can we also talk about my obsession with planner stickers?

Productivity-3.jpg

  • Get ready for the day

When you see advertisements for online schools they often say “Go to school in your pajamas!” I highly advise you not to do this. Sometimes you’ll just want to wake up late and stay in your pajamas because “you can.” When you stay in your comfortable clothes all day you have little motivation to do anything professional because you will not feel professional. I’m not telling you that you should get dressed up in a suit everyday but you should at least put on some pants and a decent shirt. “Dress for the job you want” they say.

Productivity-9.jpg

  • Set Do Not Disturb on your phone

Nothing grabs me more into social media than to see a notification. “Ooo attractive male liked my selfie? Let me stalk his Instagram feed for a minute” *20 minutes later on Instagram….* No, stop! I assure you, Felipe can wait. When you set the Do Not Disturb on your phone it will eliminate notifications popping up from all apps. If you will still be distracted by your phone after setting it to Do Not Disturb, place it in another room.

  • Move your body and get fresh air

Your body will always feel better when you get your blood pumping! You can get your blood pumping by doing yoga, going on walks, going to the gym or even dancing in your bedroom. Try to keep your body moving throughout the day as well. Often times I will go to the gym midday because I know my mind needs some movement, away from the screen. The fresh air will also benefit you. Every once in a while go out and get some fresh air. Take a walk around the block or eat your lunch outside. The sunshine will also be good for you soul.

Productivity-4.jpg

  • Take your work somewhere else

When I have little motivation I will pick up my things and go to another location outside of my home. My bed and Netflix often call my name. Libraries and coffee shops are great options to take your work. Some libraries have some great little spots where you can have complete privacy from anyone else. Personally, I find my best working vibes in coffee shops. Just me, my work and a green tea latte.

What do you do to stay motivated?

I’ve been hiding from you.

Hiding_1

There’s a huge part of my image that I have been stereotyped as my entire life, which I have been able to live with up until I reached adulthood and have become a creative for a living. Always seen as the “good girl” sweetheart from Utah. This is not inaccurate. I am careful with my life choices, have a heart of gold and an innocence about me. However, there’s an edge and spark inside of me that I’ve been hiding from the world & it’s killing me creatively”

To become truly creative you have to be true to yourself, your emotions and overcome the fear of applying this not only to your work but sharing it with the world. This is what I study and this is what I preach. However, you must practice what you preach. I have been hiding my raw thoughts within my creative outlets. It sets my soul on fire when I can help others be creative and see them flourish into the true creative they are so what is stopping me from doing the same thing?

I’ve tried to be a perfectionist my entire life and it’s simply not fucking working anymore. This is not me asking for your acceptance because I have accepted who I am. I am not changing but blossoming into the person and creator that I truely am. I still have a passion for seeking wondrous life & spreading positivity. I have high hopes and aspirations that I can still inspire in travel, creativity and lifestyle all while leaving the sugar coating to the side.

I have a great amount of writings hidden away in my draft box & I’m ready to dust them off.

Walk with fear

During my travels I have been listening to many audiobooks. You may have heard of the award winning Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.  Gilbert also has an incredible book, Big Magic, which is all about creativity and creative living. There is a part of her book which I found most inspiriting, the difference between being fearless and being courageous.

When I tell others about my driving and traveling around they always seem in a bit of a shock that I am driving around by myself to all of these places which always leads them to ask “That doesn’t scare you?” and when I tell them that enjoy traveling by myself they follow up with the famous “Wow, you are fearless!”

Here’s the real truth behind all of this…I’m not the type of person to just wait for someone to hop in the car with me. I don’t believe I should wait for great opportunities just because I don’t have a friend or significant other to join me in the passenger seat of my car. I leave at sunrise and if you’re not there, you’re not going. This has nothing to do with being fearless but more so of being selfish with a great amount of wanderlust and motivation.

That being said, I have many fears when it comes to traveling. I understand all of the possibilities of what could happen while traveling. I watch the news, I read articles, I know and understand all of the terror. I have had my scary calls and have shed a few tears. I am not fearless.

I had the crazy opportunity at Tumalo Falls, a few miles from Bend, Oregon. My good friend Dustin is always talking me into crazy adventures. With the motivation of Dustin I did something I would have never dared to do. I jumped the wall at the top of Tumalo Falls to get as close as possible to the edge and take photos of the water rushing and crashing down, 90 feet below. This was not me being fearless, I was still scared shitless, I was allowing fear to walk by my side.

You do not need to be fearless to be courageous. When you are courageous you are allowing fear to walk by your side. Do not be fearless, when you are fearless you simply have no emotions. Creative and courageous individuals thrive on emotions. Be courageous and gladly walk hand in hand with fear itself. Let fear motivate you to see more, do more, and be the best you can be.

Here’s why it’s important to get the hell out of your hometown.

It isn’t easy but it’s worth it.

Since graduating high school from St. George, Utah in 2010 I have moved around a lot and currently planning another move. Although I have lived in St. G a few times as “pitstops” I have lived in Portland, Oregon…San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico…Denver, Colorado….Burlington, Vermont….San Felipe, Mexico….and currently planning my move to Grand Junction, Colorado!

13173011_10207756058993202_7228275062759994389_o

I always felt lucky to how strict my Mother was to make sure I left the state after high school, not because I was a pain in her ass (okay, maybe a little) but because she wanted me to experience more than Utah. She refused to help pay for my college and living at all right after high school if I stayed in Utah. Go, Mom! (Hi, Mom! I love you)

Why do I still do this after college? It keeps life interesting! People ask what keeps me moving around and it has been a variety of things such as school, work, family, and even relationships.

I have always found it extremely important to not only leave your hometown but also the state and take a chance to move somewhere new, even if it’s for a year or two. Your hometown will always be there. However, take a leap and leave for once.

Here’s why you should live in new places and get the hell out of your hometown.

You’re a local and not just a tourist • One of the main reasons why I love to live places for months at a time rather than just fly and visit is because you become a local instead of a tourist which means you are actually living the culture rather then wandering too all of the basic tourist locations and taking the same photos as every other tourist. When you live somewhere you discover something new everyday & you can be the one helping all of the lost tourists.

Experience culture shock • Culture shock does not only come from country to country but also state to state in the US. My culture shock didn’t come from living in Mexico but actually living in New England. The attitude and environment is much different in New England than the western states. The “New England attitude” is a real thing and something a sweet Utah girl was not ready for.

Become more openminded • When you live in other places you experience people that are not only different from you but different from everyone you grew up around. There is a difference from politics, religion, and lifestyle. You quickly figure out that there is good in people who are different from you and you might end up becoming very good friends despite your differences.

Create your identity • The thought of “Go out and find yourself” sounds incredibly cliche but it’s very important and something I think can only truly be done if you leave what you’re used to. You might discover new passions and hobbies, a new religious path or even just grow yourself as an individual by interacting in a new place with new people. I have changed & grown a lot since high school and in ways I knew I wouldn’t have if I didn’t leave.

Make friends for life • I think when you live somewhere and meet people, that’s when you can make friends for life instead of just a new Facebook friend. Because I move so much I have friends all over the country. I know some of the most amazing people from all different backgrounds who have helped me shape into the person I am today.

Experience homesickness & appreciation • When you become homesick you actually find a lot more appreciation to your home and the place you grew up in then you ever would have before. For me, my homesickness was not only my physical home where my family was but the dry heat and surrounding red rocks. I never had appreciation for it until I left the nest.

Here are a few things you will quickly learn leaving the place you grew up in

  • There’s more to life than hometown gossip. Who’s doing what and who’s doing who. Who Cares?
  • Your past doesn’t matter anymore, your mistakes are miles and miles away now and currently disintegrating.
  • You’ll get a boost of confidence because let’s face it – you’re a badass for taking this big step in your life!
  • You’ll be more inspired and creative.
  • You learn who your real friends are back home – miles away won’t change your friendship and love for each other.
  • There are so many opportunities in this world and it’s very exciting.

Leaving your hometown is not easy and moving in general takes a lot of work. What happens if it doesn’t work out though and you feel like you’ve made a terrible mistake? Mistakes are okay. Understand the comfort that your hometown will always be there and it was a good life lesson in the long run. Besides, comfort zones are made to be broken.
